essexsuffolk

Cover all of Essex & Suffolk.
We aim to help as many people as possible, no matter where they are.

While Squirrels appear fluffy and adorable they can cause devastation as this article will explain. It is important to make the distinction between red squirrels that are protected and grey squirrels that are considered invasive and a pest.

We have extensive experience in dealing with squirrels in Halstead, Braintree, Sudbury, Colchester, or Haverhill, and surrounding villages such as Sible and Castle Hedingham, Yeldham, Felsted, Gt Cornard, Gosfield among others. Our methods are efficient and as humane as possible.

Please call us on 01787 477804 to discuss your requirements. We are happy to serve domestic, commercial and agricultural customers.

Grey squirrels are a cause of many issues including the decline of the red squirrel. They also strip bark from trees and will even find their way into attics and damage the wooden beams. In more extreme situations they will strip the insulation of electrical wires and squirrels have been blamed for several fires due to this damage.

Signs of squirrel activity include damage to garden plants, bark missing from trees, squirrel droppings, nests, holes in buildings and small damage to lawns where they like to stash acorns.

Efforts can be made to discourage them including reducing accessibility, removing food sources and using repellent devices. We can advise further on these methods.

treatment methods.

  • Proofing
  • Traps

The above hierarchy of methods, in order of use, are the ways in which we deal with squirrels.

We’ve been dealing with pest control in Essex & Suffolk for over 20 years. We know exactly what to look for when it comes to squirrels, how they’re getting in, how to stop them and how to catch them.

Proofing
Preventing access to the building(s) is a key element to preventing entry or future problems with squirrels. We have the knowledge and equipment to locate and seal off entry points.

Trapping
Squirrel traps with bait will be set in strategic places by the technician. When the squirrel is caught, the technician will return to collect it together with the traps.

If you have a squirrel problem in Essex or Suffolk and are fed up with living with an ongoing problem, give us a call.

grey squirrel facts.

  • Grey squirrels are not native to the UK.
  • They were first released in the UK in 1876 and have had a disastrous impact on the UK’s only native squirrel species, the red squirrel.
  • Grey squirrels compete with red squirrels for food and are highly successful due to their larger size, weight and ability to tolerate a wider variety of foods.
  • They also carry a virus called squirrelpox to which they are immune. However, they transmit it to red squirrels, which have no immunity and is often fatal.
  • Squirrels are excellent climbers and can leap great distances compared to their relative small size. They will use trees that are close to buildings to easily access roofs where they will try to get into loft spaces to nest.
